The Mijas Town Hall has announced that, due to the storm forecast for this weekend with the arrival of a new storm, the Carnival celebrations in Las Lagunas and La Cala have been postponed. This was due to be the first weekend of the Carnival celebrations, but the rain forecast for Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th has led to the postponement of these events in both urban centres. In Las Lagunas, the festivities have been rescheduled for Saturday 14th of February, while in La Cala will take place on the 21st of February. In Mijas Pueblo, the original date, Sunday 15th, remains unchanged. According to the Department for Festivities and Traditions at the Mijas Town Hall, all three celebrations will be full of colour and joy, and residents are invited to take part. In addition, the band La Periférica will perform at each of the celebrations.
The celebrations will begin on Saturday 14th in Las Lagunas. The event will begin at 11 hours with a parade departing from Miguel Hernández Avenue, next to María Zambrano Park. The parade will end at Andalucía Park at around 13 hours, where the fancy-dress competition will take place.
On Sunday 15th, Mijas Pueblo will also celebrate its Carnival party with a parade and a fancy-dress competition. The event will start at 11 hours at the Town Hall. After the parade, the celebration will continue in the Virgen de la Peña Square where the costume contest will be held.
On Saturday 21st of February, it will be La Cala’s turn; the parade will start at 11 hours at the Cultural Centre and the fancy-dress competition will be held at La Butibamba Park.
The Festivities Department encourages everyone to attend in fancy dress, as there will be prizes and gifts. Those interested must register one hour before the parade at the departure points. Prizes for the winning group will range from 60 to 300 euros.
