  • Se esperan días de lluvia en el municipio.

Mata stresses that her priority is to "protect people", calling on residents to avoid unnecessary journeys and to stay informed through official channels

At midday today (3rd of February), the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), reported through the Town Hall's social media accounts that, "with the aim of coordinating all prevention and response actions in view of the weather conditions forecast for tomorrow, Wednesday", after a maximum alert was declared in Andalusia due to the rains and classes were suspended throughout the region, except in Almería, she held a telematic meeting with the mayors of the other 102 municipalities in Málaga.

As the mayoress explained, "the land is overloaded with water, which is causing landslides, falling trees and risks to infrastructure". In view of this situation, Mata said that the Junta de Andalucía "has taken the decision to raise the Emergency Plan from level 1 to level 2", adding that this circumstance "allows us to mobilise more emergency resources and act more quickly if necessary".

Emergency plan activated

The Mijas Town Hall has emphasised that the Local Emergency Plan is now fully activated. "We have deployed preventive measures throughout Mijas, reinforcing the emergency services, Fire Brigade and Civil Protection, Operational Services and Parks and Gardens", said Mata, who insists that "the 112 telephone number should be used responsibly in any emergency situation".

Among the measures adopted for Wednesday are: the suspension of school activities; suspension of activities in senior citizens' centres; suspension of UP activities; recommendation to work from home whenever possible; closure of parks and public spaces with trees due to the risk of falling; suspension of outdoor sports activities; and the preventive evacuation of flood-prone areas.

Measures, as indicated in the Facebook post, that "may be maintained until Thursday, with constant updates, depending on how the situation evolves".

For all these reasons, Mata assures that her "priority is clear: to protect people" and calls for "responsibility, avoiding unnecessary journeys and following only the information provided by official channels". Finally, the mayoress concludes by stating that "we continue to work in a coordinated manner to ensure the safety of everyone".
