On the afternoon of Thursday 29th and on Friday morning, the Mijas Fire Brigade, Parks and Gardens and the Operational Services departments had to intervene urgently, following a report from a local resident, in the El Coto residential area, to prevent the fall of a large pine tree that was showing abnormal movement from its base. The Councillor for the Fire Brigade, Francisco Jerez (Vox), attended the scene and explained that "the ground is completely waterlogged and pine trees offer a lot of resistance to the wind, even when there is no weather alert. As the pine tree is moving from its base, it is likely to fall on a house, so before it falls and causes serious damage, the area has been cordoned off, a municipal truck with a crane and basket has arrived, and the firefighters are going to remove the crown to prevent it from falling".

During the night, the crew pruned the top of the tree. This is a busy area, especially during the morning, as it is located near an educational centre, and it posed a danger to residents.
