The name of Mijas will remain at the top of Spanish basketball. On Monday 26th it was announced that the Mijas Town Hall has renewed the sponsorship it maintains with Unicaja Basketball Club for two more years.
This agreement establishes that Mijas will sponsor the club's first men's and women's teams for two seasons – the current one and the next, 2026/27 – with the possibility of an extension for two additional seasons – until 2028/29. All this, explained the Executive, "in order to promote tourism, sport and culture in the town".
The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the president of Club Unicaja Baloncesto, Antonio Jesús López Nieto, jointly announced this renewal, which allows for the continuation, as highlighted by the government team, of "a fruitful collaboration between both entities to promote the values of both grassroots and professional sport, and to promote Mijas through a wide range of channels".
Unicaja Mijas
The contract stipulates that the women's first team will continue to be called Unicaja Mijas; that the city's logo will be included on the players' shirts; that the name Mijas will be inserted on the game clocks of the matches it plays; and that there will be banners with the town's corporate image. In addition to all this, there will be dynamic advertising on the LED screens of the Martín Carpena pavilion during the men's matches.

This sponsorship, the local government emphasises, "is justified by the fact that both teams have a clear national profile, their own identity and athletes who contribute to spreading the values of sport and the Mijas brand". The contract establishes a price for this sponsorship of 385,000 euros for the initial two years, of which 320,000 euros will go to the women's team and the rest to sponsor the men's team.
Under this sponsorship, the women's team will visit Mijas Town Hall and municipal sports facilities during the term of the contract. These are some of the points established in the agreement.
Values
"It is a guarantee that Mijas supports Unicaja because it is a great sporting institution that represents many young people and the values we want to show: teamwork, camaraderie, generosity and discipline. All of this represents Unicaja and also Mijas, so we are going to go hand in hand for at least two more seasons", explained the mayoress, Ana Mata.
