Cáritas Mijas continues with its parish activities and, among other things, wishes to thank the public for their ongoing support, most recently with the Café y Calor night shelter campaign, launched by the Diocese of Málaga to help people experiencing homelessness.
On Tuesday morning, Cáritas Mijas took stock of its campaigns during the celebration of the town’s patron saint day. "Today is the solemnity of Saint Sebastian, which for our village is a major celebration because he is our patron saint, and around this festival we hold the collection that Cáritas has for the Calor y Café programme run by Cáritas in Málaga", said Hermán Marcel Lunar, parish priest of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
"We must say that we have received a tremendous response from the brotherhoods in our town, with businesses also getting involved in collecting food, and the public in general", said Josefa Quero, a member of Cáritas Mijas.
The organisation wishes like to thank everyone who has contributed to the campaign and the excellent response from the public.
"Calor y Café is asking for coffee, Cola Cao, biscuits and tuna, right now, these are the items they need most", said Dolores Cuevas, also a member of Cáritas Mijas.
During carnival, Cáritas has requested to set up a bar to raise funds and continue helping those most in need. Donations can be made at the parish churches and at the Cáritas offices.
