The Town Hall is working to develop an underground car park in Andalucía Park

  • The facility will provide up to 500 parking spaces, distributed over four floors
  • El edil de Obras e Infraestructuras, Juan José Torres Trella, habló este viernes del proyecto.

Currently, the Infrastructure and Works Department is evaluating two bids from companies interested in drafting this project

The Mijas Town Hall is taking the first steps to develop an underground car park in Andalucía Park in Las Lagunas, which will create up to 500 parking spaces spread over four floors. As explained on Friday by the councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), the car park will be built on an area of around 3,500 square metres, mainly under the sports court in this park in Las Lagunas, as the government team's idea is to preserve much of the trees and vegetation in this area, "which has many years of history, so we would not want to touch many trees in the construction of the car park", said the councillor, adding that "in any case, any trees that are removed will be relocated to another green space in the municipality".

As for the number of parking spaces planned, the councillor pointed out that "as established by current legislation, spaces will also be reserved for electric vehicles and people with reduced mobility, among others", and regarding the outdoor and surface area, "the idea is to keep all the sports facilities and the different elements in the park, but completely remodelled".

Bids submitted

The Mijas Town Hall has already received two bids from companies interested in drafting this project, with an investment of just over 85,000 euros and a completion period of four months. "Then, in October approximately, the works will be put out to tender, so they would start in 2027", estimated the councillor.

Torres Trella also highlighted that the initiative will alleviate the lack of parking in this central area of Las Lagunas, "and as it is located within the park, it will make the work much easier and will not affect the daily lives of citizens as much, so we understand that the inconvenience will be minimal".

  • El parking irá bajo el espacio que actualmente alberga la pista deportiva.

Parking plan

Finally, the head of Infrastructure and Works recalled that "this underground car park is included in our municipal parking plan, with which we want to create 4,000 parking spaces in different parts of Mijas". In this regard, Torres Trella indicated that, "in addition to this project under the Andalucía park, in the first few months of the year, plans will also be drafted for new car parks in the La Vega area, the Las Cañadas neighbourhood and the area around La Butibamba park in La Cala".
