The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the Regional Minister for Health, Presidency and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, announced on Friday that the new High-Resolution and Processes Centre in Mijas will speed up treatments and discharges, representing a “significant leap forward” in healthcare. The Town Hall will carry out the construction, and the Regional Ministry will provide staff and equipment
In this regard, both leaders stated that "85% of the healthcare demand in the municipality of Mijas will be covered thanks to this facility, whose implementation is unstoppable", and highlighted that, finally, Mijas, "after more than twenty years of empty promises", will have modern facilities that will improve the lives of its citizens.

Antonio Sanz emphasised "the Andalusian Government's commitment to provide Mijas and its residents with all the resources necessary to ensure that the new High-Resolution and Processes Centre becomes a reality, a real project that ends more than 20 years of unmet demands and will significantly improve healthcare in the municipality".
The project drafting is out to public tender
The mayoress and the minister announced that the order to publish the public tender for the project drafting was issued on Friday 9th, so it was made available on the State's procurement portal between Friday and Monday 12th of January, allowing companies to submit their bids. The deadline for submission is 30 calendar days from the date of publication.
The mayoress noted that this tender represents a "decisive step towards making this health centre a reality as soon as possible". She also pointed out that, in less than three weeks, since the 22nd of December, "the agreement with the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) for its construction has been approved by the municipal plenary; signed, and now the drafting of the project is out to tender".

"This demonstrates that the government team’s commitment to improving healthcare services in the municipality is firm and already has a clear timeline", she emphasised, adding that "this municipal and SAS initiative received the endorsement of the Málaga College of Physicians in a meeting held with its president, Pedro J. Navarro, on the 12th of December".
Built on a 12,365 square metre plot
The mayoress explained that the health centre will be built on a municipal plot in Las Lagunas, bordered by Benajarafe, Algatocín and Antonio García Moreno streets and Comares Avenue, and located between La Vega secondary school and Miramar Park.
The Health Minister, who thanked Ana Mata for her collaboration, said that this new healthcare infrastructure represents a "major leap forward in both capacity and quality of the service for the municipality’s residents".
The centre will offer specialities including cardiology, pulmonology, paediatrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, dermatology, speech therapy, major outpatient surgery and minor surgery, as well as midwives and a 24-hour emergency service. It will cover 12,365 square metres and will be brought into operation in phases.
"This infrastructure will therefore provide more comprehensive, efficient and high-quality healthcare to the residents of Mijas", he added. "A one-stop service will be implemented for the specialities and conditions indicated by professionals, so treatments will be faster and discharge processes shorter, as diagnosis and treatment will take place at the same centre on the same day".
"Imminent" construction
The minister stressed that the agreement signed with the Town Hall will allow construction to begin "imminently", as the Mijas Town Hall's budget for 2026 already includes funds for both the drafting and the implementation project, with an estimated cost of over 625,000 euros.
Antonio Sanz stated that the Andalusian Government has made an "unprecedented commitment" to improving the public health system in terms of both infrastructure and personnel. "We are particularly committed to reversing the long-standing under-resourcing of many areas of Andalusia, including Málaga and its province", he said, before recalling that "the residents of Mijas have been hearing promises for decades that never materialised, until this government arrived, a government of commitment and action".
"Today we can say that Mijas will have the healthcare infrastructure it needs, and we will continue working hand in hand with the local Town Hall to speed up construction, equip the building with cutting-edge technology and provide the necessary staff, ensuring the lives of residents and professionals are undoubtedly improved", he concluded.
