On the 2nd of January, the Town Hall officially published the call for grants for sports organisations for the 2026 financial year. The total budget for this call is 800,000 euros, aimed at covering the operating and federation costs of local clubs.
According to the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), the call for applications will remain open until the 30th of January. Until that date, all organisations based in Mijas can submit their projects and justifications for expenses incurred in 2025, as grants are paid retrospectively. The last call benefited 12 sports clubs, which shared 734,317 euros.

Alarcón emphasised the speed with which the Town Hall has begun processing these grants, “on the first working day of the year, because we want our clubs to have all the resources they need as soon as possible so that they can continue their excellent work of promoting sport and teaching the values it represents”.
To be eligible for these grants, organisations must have their registered office in the municipality; be registered in the Town Hall’s Municipal Register of Associations and Organisations as of 1 January 2025; be registered in the Andalusian Register of Sports Organisations as of 1 January 2025; be registered with their relevant sports federation as of 1 January 2025, and have participated in official competitions in the 2025 financial year.

It is worth noting that these grants to organisations in Mijas benefited 3,200 athletes in the last call. The councillor estimated that this number will rise in the new call, as the total funding is expected to increase from 734,317 euros in 2025 to 800,000 euros in 2026.
Of the 3,200 athletes from the 12 clubs that benefited from the previous call, 224 participated in Andalusian championships (160 athletes), 63 in Spanish championships and one in international championships.
The beneficiaries of the most recent call were: Club Polideportivo Mijas Baloncesto, CD Mijas, CD La Cala de Mijas, Candor Fútbol Club, Club Balonmano San Francisco de Asís Mijas, CD Gimnasia Rítmica Sohail Mijas, CD Mijas Unión Basket, Club Bádminton Suel Mijas, CD Pescadores Mosca Málaga Fly Fishing, CD Sala de Armas Adalid Mijas, CD Raquetas de Mijas and Club de Ajedrez Tarmina.
