Mijas celebrated its traditional and magical Three Wise Men afternoon on the 5th of January with a visit from Their Majesties to the three towns, with parades in Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas and La Cala.

The bulk of Storm Francis moved away from Malaga in the morning, allowing the Three Wise Men parades to take place almost normally in the town. However, a heavy downpour just before the start of the parades, at around 16:30 hours, kept all the children on tenterhooks. Finally, the clouds passed, and with a slight delay, the parades got underway as normal. Only in the case of Mijas Pueblo did the route have to be shortened due to the unstable weather. As a result, it was an afternoon full of excitement and anticipation, especially for the youngest members of the family.

A magical afternoon

The Three Wise Men set off from the Town Hall in Mijas Pueblo, where they greeted the residents from the balcony of the Town Hall building. The parade set off from Calle San Cristóbal in Las Lagunas and from La Butibamba Park in La Cala, with the three kings ready to share a long afternoon of joy with everyone. A little earlier, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), presented Their Majesties with the Key to the City, allowing them to enter the homes of all families in Mijas during the night. “We have held our three parades simultaneously, a major challenge that has only been possible thanks to the impeccable work of the Festivities Department, to whom I would like to express my special gratitude. “Their dedication, planning and constant effort make it possible for Mijas to enjoy these celebrations to the fullest and live up to the standards of a big city”, said the mayoress.

Collaboration and coordination

Up to 19 groups from the municipality accompanied Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar in these three parades, which consisted of a total of 22 floats, from which more than 8,000 kilos of sweets, up to 2,500 soft toys and 2,000 balls were thrown, and which also featured musical entertainment provided by brass bands, batucadas and the Las Lagunas Music Group. “In addition, this has been a particularly significant year because, for the first time, associations, groups and parents associations (AMPAs) have actively participated in the parades”, added Mata.

“My thanks also go to the cleaning services, the operational teams and all the supporting services that work before, during and after the event to make sure everything runs smoothly and is successfully delivered. Thank you to everyone who made this possible”, said Mata.

A sweet farewell

In the three districts of Mijas, the Three Wise Men welcomed children to listen carefully to their wishes and give them more gifts and toys. In addition, ‘roscones’ and hot chocolate were served at all three events. Without a doubt, this was the sweetest way to bring this afternoon of excitement and magic to an end.
