On Thursday 18th, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), welcomed representatives from twelve sports clubs in the municipality that have received municipal subsidies to support their operations and promote their activities. The 734,317 euros already paid to all of them represent the highest amount in Mijas’ history and, as the Executive highlighted, “demonstrates the public commitment to grassroots sport”.
The twelve beneficiary clubs are: Club Polideportivo Mijas, Club Deportivo Mijas, Club Deportivo La Cala de Mijas, Candor Fútbol Club, Club Balonmano San Francisco de Asís Mijas, Club Deportivo Gimnasia Rítmica Sohail Mijas, Club Deportivo Mijas Unión Basket, Club Bádminton Suel Mijas, Club Deportivo Pescadores Mosca Málaga Fly Fishing, Club Deportivo Sala de Armas Adalid Mijas, Club Deportivo Raquetas de Mijas and Club de Ajedrez Tarmina.
Mata, accompanied by the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), highlighted that these twelve clubs have a total of 3,200 athletes, of whom 2,458 participate in team sports and 742 in individual sports. The subsidies correspond to the 2024 financial year and, as usual, will be awarded the following year after verification of the required documentation and expenses. She also announced that “we have already published the call for applications for next year. Although applications cannot be submitted until the 1st, because it will be published on that day in the [Official State] Gazette, applicants will have the opportunity to submit all the documentation for 2025 from the 1st to the 30th”.

The mayoress emphasised the role played in Mijas by the organisations benefiting from sports subsidies. “I am not only talking about national or international competitions, which of course are also important, but about what I consider to be more important: grassroots sport, which is practised daily in our municipality and instilled from childhood”.
Mata praised this sport, saying that “it teaches our children and young people to work hard, respect others, take care of their health and overcome difficulties. The Mijas Town Hall is fully committed to the life lessons that sport represents”.
