The Operational Services Department is carrying out resurfacing work on a section of the A-7053 road, also known as Camino de Coín, to improve the road surface, which has deteriorated due to constant traffic, particularly heavy vehicles.
Specifically, work is being carried out on a stretch between the entrance to the La Cala Hills residential area and the El Esparragal park, over 600 metres long, covering a total area of around 3,600 square metres. The investment has amounted to 150,000 euros.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), visited the area on Wednesday 17th to check on the progress of the work, which has been carried out over four consecutive days. Accompanied by the councillor for Operational Services, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), the mayoress explained that this type of work is carried out “on a regular basis” on the streets and avenues of the municipality whose surfaces suffer most from heavy traffic. “We are talking about a very busy road, especially for heavy goods vehicles. I believe we are in an area that is also equidistant from each of the districts in our municipality”, said Mata.
For his part, Gómez Teruel pointed out that “the worst section was between the Las Raquetas de Mijas Club, at the entrance to La Cala Hills and El Esparragal, where we have facilitated and improved access to both Hacienda El Cazador 1 and 2, as well as the entrance to Mijas Golf and La Siesta, residential areas that have been requesting these improvements for a long time due to the poor condition of the pavement”.
Night-time working hours
The work was carried out at night, “to cause as little disruption as possible to traffic”. Work was temporarily affected on Monday night and Tuesday morning, when the municipality was hit by heavy rain and strong winds from Storm Emilia.
From a technical point of view, Gómez Teruel indicated that “preliminary milling work has been carried out in the most deteriorated areas in order to subsequently lay the wearing course”.
The aim of this resurfacing and signage work, according to the councillor, is to “improve safety and the road surface, which is used by a large number of vehicles every day, including heavy goods vehicles. It is a very busy road because it connects Mijas with Alhaurín el Grande and Coín, and also provides access to Fuengirola, so it is of great commercial importance”.
Resurfacing plan
This action will continue, the councillor pointed out, as part of a more ambitious Resurfacing Plan that the Town Hall is developing. “We are working, both from Operational Services and Infrastructure, to publicise this resurfacing plan, so that all residents of the municipality will know that their streets will be treated in the same way. We must have the capacity and, above all, do a job that has not been done until now, which is to serve all residents, regardless of where they live”.
