CIOMijas hosted this meeting of professionals dedicated to municipal policies focused on youth

More than 200 Youth technicians and councillors from across Andalusia, including those from Mijas, gathered on Thursday 11th at the CIOMijas facilities for the first Meeting of Youth Professionals ‘RedJoven25’. The event, held under the slogan “Weaving networks, transforming youth”, was inaugurated by the mayoress Ana Mata (PP) and the regional delegate for Youth of the Junta de Andalucía, Ruth Sarabia.

In her speech, the mayoress of Mijas stressed that “this conference is very important because it puts young people at the centre of the policies, activities and actions of each municipality, because young people are our present, but we must not forget that they are also our future. Unity is strength, and I believe that this meeting here in Mijas is proof of that”.

  • Este foro ha permitido compartir buenas experiencias en materia de juventud.

Through this forum, technicians and councillors from different Andalusian municipalities shared good practices in the field of youth, including the Mijas councillor Melisa Ceballos, who said that “this type of experience gives us ideas on how to encourage our young people to visit the Youth offices, so that they know we exist and that we work for and with them. We also want to understand their concerns”.

In this regard, the coordinator of the Andalusian Youth Institute, Pedro Antonio Ramírez, pointed out that “it is beneficial for political leaders, in this case those responsible for Youth, to listen to the contributions of technical staff, because they are the first point of contact for young people when they arrive at the Youth offices”.

During the event, the role of new technologies and social media among young people was also discussed “to increase their participation, so that they receive our messages as an administration correctly”, said delegate Ruth Sarabia, adding that “we have to use their language and be present on these channels, which they use to communicate but also to stay informed about everything that is happening”.
