The Grand Park of Mijas reopened its doors this weekend, partially for the third time, with more than half of the total area open to visitors from 9 to 19 hours. Neither Saturday's cold weather nor Sunday morning's rain prevented many families from enjoying this new green and leisure space in the municipality. "Personally, I was very impressed by the lake, which I’m sure will bring a breath of fresh air to the park in summer, and also by the amphitheatre and the size of the grounds, which are quite large", said Javier Morillo-Velarde, a resident of La Cala who took his two children, Rafael and Sofía, to the park on Saturdayon Saturday. "It's really cool because it has lots of swings, and I liked the pirate ship", the children added.

 

The children's play area was undoubtedly the busiest part of the park over the weekend, not to mention the cycle lanes and walking paths. This park is perfect for walking, as it covers an area of around 270,000 square metres, making it one of the largest urban parks in Andalusia.

"Yesterday I looked at the Town Hall's Facebook page and read that they were opening the park this weekend for technical testing, so we came to see what it was like and we're really impressed", said another resident from Las Lagunas, Aziz Bon, while Rocío Clavero admitted that "so far we've only seen the lake and the children's area, because the girls already want to stay here and there's no way to get them to leave".

The park will be opened gradually, according to the Mijas Town Hall, once the permanent toilets have been built and the pet areas completed, among other things. In the meantime, first impressions of this space are very positive. "It's very big, very green, with lots of different play areas and plenty of space for my daughter to ride her scooter, run and play sports, so we're delighted with this new place", concluded another resident, Javier Martínez, from Fuengirola.
