On Thursday 13th, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), visited the Mediterranean Real Estate Exhibition (SiMed) to meet companies with headquarters or commercial interests in the municipality, where she conveyed the Town Hall's commitment to affordable housing to developers. The visit had a twofold purpose: to learn about the nearly one thousand homes currently being developed or marketed across Mijas and to underline the Town Hall's firm commitment to the creation of affordable housing.
A total of eight companies with projects in the town are present at the fair, two of which are from Mijas. Specifically, Inmocala Real Estate, Servicia Solutions, Culmia, Grupo Insur, Neinor Homes, Grupo Promar, LandCo and VR Promociones.
Mata explained that the Town Hall has already begun the process of making four municipal plots totalling 36,000 square metres available, where around 554 affordable homes are planned. The mayoress stressed that the aim is to provide "housing that is within the reach of citizens, especially the middle class, which includes the youngest members of society", and emphasised that "rental" housing will also be promoted.
Local commitment
One of the Mijas-based companies, Inmocala Real Estate, with 50 years of history, demonstrated that this commitment to local housing works. Its owner, Manuel Fernandez, explained that after noticing the difficulty young people had in accessing housing, "I spoke to my father and we decided to develop a project in Las Lagunas, Residencial Mijasol, aimed specifically at this type of audience, offering affordable two-bedroom homes. And the truth is, it has been a complete success, everything has been sold to young families", said Fernández. For them, "it's not just about profit, but also about being able to help families to buy affordable housing".
Projects under development
At SiMed, developers showcased numerous projects for Mijas. These include 155 homes by Culmia at Calanova Golf Club; three developments by Grupo Insur (Hipódromo Balance, Balance Nova and Savia) totalling 357 units; and two by Grupo Promar in Las Lagunas, with 136 homes. In addition, LandCo has projects in El Chaparral and Camino Cortijo Grande, with 162 homes; Neinor Homes is building 80 homes at Evergreen Homes La Cala; and VR Promociones has 56 homes at Residencial Aries.
