It is not just 10,000 euros, it is the commitment of the employees of Wyndham Grand Costa del Sol and the Idiliq Foundation to the fight against cancer. That is the amount of the cheque presented on Monday by the company to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). The funds were raised through the campaign the organisation launches every October to mark World Breast Cancer Day, in which employees actively participated by contributing 5,000 euros, an amount that Idiliq doubled for this cause.

"It's already a tradition for us, and our staff and volunteers embrace it with such enthusiasm and interest that it's a pleasure to repeat it. In addition, with the commitment we made a few years ago, the Idiliq Foundation matches the amount raised through the various activities organised, so we know that every euro raised actually becomes two euros ultimately donated", explained the foundation's president, Juan Miguel Marcos.

The Spanish Association Against Cancer is grateful for the collaboration. "I am delighted, because I have only just taken up the position and already have this to look forward to", said Carmen Gómez, president of the AECC Mijas, who added that "it is impressive how so many people who work here get involved, how they engage customers and organise events, and that they are then able to donate such a significant amount is incredible. Everything collected for patients, for research, and for the AECC’s free services for families is invaluable".

The handover took place on Monday at the Wyndham Grand Costa del Sol, and was attended by numerous representatives from the foundation, the AECC, the Málaga Provincial Council and the Mijas Town Hall, as well as many of the company’s employees. "I am very satisfied as mayoress, because we are not only contributing to the AECC, but also to the Idiliq Foundation", said the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who recalled that "together we are a big family working for the common good so that no one is in need, because in some way we cover it with all these people working every day to make sure no one is alone on their journey through life". Alongside Mata, representing the government team, the councillor for Health, Marco Cortés (PP), and the councillor and deputy mayor of La Cala, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), were also present.

Struggle and hope
Last year, almost 1,300 cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in Malaga, according to the vice-president of the AECC Malaga, Alfredo Herrera. The association emphasises that every person facing cancer has a story of struggle and hope and that this type of collaboration is essential in order to stand up to the disease. "It is a great satisfaction and we are very grateful for Idiliq's help because we know that they are always there", said Herrera, who also pointed out that "in order to help people, we need financial resources: because we have psychologists, oncologists, doctors and all these things cost money. Without the support of companies and partners, it would be impossible. The AECC has 70,000 members and thanks to them we can undertake many initiatives, especially in research".
