Following the trip to Huelva, the Department for Senior Citizens of the Mijas Town Hall has a new initiative for retired people and pensioners in the municipality, who will have the opportunity to visit the Municipal Historical Archive and take a guided tour of the town free of charge, with bus transport for residents of Las Lagunas and La Cala de Mijas, as announced by the councillor responsible for the area, Silvia Marín (PP). This activity will take place between the 18th and the 20th of November and, as Marín pointed out, is part of the active ageing programme, which aims to promote social interaction, combat loneliness and expand the cultural offering for this group.

To this end, the Senior Citizens' Department has organised three sessions. The first, on the 18th of November, is reserved for elderly residents from La Cala; the second, on the 19th of November, will be for those from Las Lagunas; and the third, on the 20th of November, will be for those from Mijas Pueblo. To attend, you must reserve a place, either in person at the Las Lagunas Active Participation Centre or by telephone on 696 56 31 89.

During the visit to the Archive, the senior citizens will be able to learn how it works, view historical documents, and consult records. "They will be able to learn how the documentation is stored, see old images of the municipality and find out what is done with the information collected. All so that future generations will also know where we come from", explained the councillor responsible.
Archaeological finds
The guided tour is also of special interest because they will learn about 'Submerged Mijas' from the department's archaeologists, who will explain the archaeological finds located under the streets of Mijas. They will also visit some of the town's most emblematic sites, such as the burials in the medieval necropolis, among others.

Marín recalled that during the first half of the year, in collaboration with the Municipal Historical Archive department, a series of talks were organised for the elderly residents of the municipality to give them first-hand knowledge of the archaeological finds uncovered in the excavations at the Cortijo de Acebedo site, as well as guided tours of the site itself.
