Approved in plenary a budget amendment of nearly 1.5 million euros

  • Votación a favor del equipo de gobierno de uno de los expedientes.

According to the councillor Mario Bravo, the aim is to “pay outstanding invoices, many from 2023, so that everything is settled by the end of the year”

During the ordinary October plenary session, held on Wednesday 29th, the Mijas Town Hall approved the initial approval of a budget amendment amounting to 1,448,534 euros. The motion, put forward by the Department of Economy and Finance, was approved with the votes in favour of the government team, the abstention of Ciudadanos and the vote against from the PSOE.

“When we took office at the Mijas Town Hall two years ago, one of the main issues we found was the delay in the payment invoices for various reasons. One of them was that money was sometimes being spent beyond the available credit. Over the past two years, we have sought to correct those excesses, and this is the final budget amendment we are making in order to pay many of those outstanding invoices”, explained the councillor for Economy and Finance, Mario Bravo (PP).

“In particular, this 1.5 million euros includes 325,000 euros that we are reducing from the Cleaning Department, as the new public building cleaning contract has not yet been awarded. This does not mean that services are being reduced, but rather that no new contract has yet been signed. The rest comes from the general treasury surplus. Our aim is to  allocate credit to vairous departments so that they can pay all those pending invoices.  Some have already been paid under the supplier payment plan, while others are still awaiting settlement”, explained the Popular Party councillor.

In response to Cs’ question about the projects the government team plans to undertake, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), stated that “of course we have projects. They are just very different from those of previous government teams, at least in terms of priorities. Because this government team would have preferred that those 27.5 million euros had been spent on much-needed health infrastructure in our municipality.”

The mayoress was referring to some of the projects carried out by the previous government team, such as the Gran Parque, to which they allocated more than 27 million euros; the La Cala de Mijas swimming pool and the Los Santos car park.
