Under the slogan ‘Their happiness is our reward’, the domestic animal shelter in Mijas (PAD) organised a new charity event over the weekend to raise funds. It was an autumn market, held in the square in front of the La Cala Branch Office, with stalls selling second-hand items including clothes, books, crafts and decorative objects. 

 

“All the stalls are run by volunteers and everything raised goes to PAD. We are very grateful to the Town Hall for providing us with the space, because here we can raise some money”, said PAD’s president Cristina Alberto Rosado.

 

The aim was to raise funds to care for the dogs and cats at the shelter, but also to raise awareness of PAD’s work. 

 

“Animal shelters depend on volunteers; we don’t receive any subsidies. Our dogs go for walks thanks to volunteers. Everything depends on them, on those who come and give us their time, however little it may be. Some people make small financial donations, donate food, help us spread the word on social media. All of that really helps”, added Alberto Rosado. 

 

José Miguel García a PAD volunteer explained: “We are here to help an association that does exceptional work with animals. I first got to know PAD when I went to adopt my first dog. I have also been a foster home, which I think is very important, and I have adopted other dogs as well. For me, PAD does excellent work”, he said.

 

Rosa María Martín, another volunteer, had her own stall at the autumn fair. “We have a little bit of everything, jewellery and various items that people give me. I ask for things wherever I can, and we sell what people donate and whatever else we can”, she explained.
