This is the sixth year that Roberto’s Grill and Sports Bar in Calahonda has organised a charity lunch in aid of Mijas Felina, an association that has been working for a decade to protect feral cats in the municipality. “We are delighted with the turnout this year, it has been a great day. New people have come along and we also have those who return year after year, which makes us very happy. We have been doing this for six years now”, said the bar’s owner, Roberto González.

 

The establishment prepared two paellas and held raffles for the occasion, while Mijas Felina also set up several stalls selling merchandise and second-hand items. “They have always been very supportive of us here, and all the funds raised go entirely to the association”, said the president of the feline collective, Cristina Sánchez. 

 

Selfless work

Mijas Felina highlighted that their work is entirely voluntary. “We started by controlling the street colonies, that is, neutering the cats so they wouldn’t reproduce”, explained Sánchez, who went on to say that their work now goes much further.

 

“We also care for sick cats, we have a network of foster homes, and a group dedicated exclusively to adoptions. We’re growing all the time, and the workload keeps increasing. We’ve been doing this for ten years now. We also receive support and coordinate with the Town Hall, and things have improved considerably”, she said. 

 

“I love animals, it’s something my parents instilled in me and it’s what motivates me to organise this event. We try to support Mijas Felina, which uses its resources to manage and mediate in matters related to colonies and so on. Within our means, we do our best to help every year”, added González.
