Mijas allocates 730,000 euros to renovate sports equipment

The Mijas Town Hall has awarded a 730,000 euro contract for the comprehensive renovation of the specific machinery in the municipality's gyms and sports facilities. The contract, divided into six different lots, will significantly improve services for citizens and encourage active participation in sport.

The Town Hall emphasizes that "this contract addresses a long-standing need to equip the five municipal gyms (Mijas Pueblo, Ciudad Deportiva Regino Hernández de Las Lagunas, Hipódromo Costa del Sol, La Cala sports hall, and La Cala swimming pool building). In total, this includes over 1,000 machines and training items, technical flooring, and tatami mats. In some cases, the machines had not been replaced for decades.

Installation of the first equipment begins this week in the La Cala swimming pool pavilion and the Mijas Pueblo gym, according to a meeting held between the councilor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), and the companies awarded the lots under the contract.

Professional range required

The contract stipulates that all equipment must be of professional grade and follow a uniform aesthetic in terms of colours, upholstery, brands, and models. In addition, the Town Hall requires that any closure of facilities to replace old machinery with new be no longer than two days.

Gyms

Lot 1 of this contract covers equipment for the five municipal gyms, including a total of 871 machines and training items: treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines, biceps and triceps machines, and squat racks, dumbbells, Olympic discs and bumpers, hyperextension benches, calf raise benches, and many others.

Lot 2 provides indoor cycling bikes for the Las Lagunas and La Cala gyms, a total of 50 units featuring high-strength steel frames, screens displaying speed, distance, and calories, resistance control, and professional SPD pedals.

Sports flooring

Lot 3 covers the renovation of the sports flooring in three municipal gyms and one indoor cycling room (a total of 768 square meters). This material is made of recycled rubber with a non-slip surface and and acoustic insulation.

The sports flooring renovation covers 213 square meters at the La Cala gym pavilion; 200 square meters at the Costa del Sol Racetrack gym; 270 square meters at the Regino Hernández Sports Centre; and 85 square meters in the indoor cycling room at Regino Hernández.

Lot 4 for the new Olympic swimming pool includes turning benches, starting platforms, and changing room benches, as well as backstroke flags, competition lane ropes, and carts for transporting training equipment in the water.

International competitions

Lot 5 will renew the tatami mats for two competition areas, one in the martial arts room of the new Multipurpose Building and one in the covered pavilion, both at Regino Hernández Sports Centre. These tatamis are certified for official competitions by the International Judo Federation.

Lot 6 provides new equipment for the athletics track at Costa del Sol Racetrack, including 12 competition starting blocks, 40 training hurdles, 14 javelins, weights, discs, and hammers (54 units in total), and posts for high jump and pole vault, among others. All equipment must be certified by World Athletics, the global governing body for the sport.

Commercial warranty

The Mijas Town Hall has included in the tender specifications a series of commercial warranty conditions covering labour, travel, and spare parts; a maximum 48-hour response time for diagnostics; a maximum resolution period of five working days; and the provision of temporary replacement equipment in the event of a breakdown if repairs take longer than five days.

Replacement of equipment due to damage or defect with items of equal functionality and quality is mandatory within a maximum of ten working days during the warranty period. Upholstery replacement is also required in the event of damage.

All electronic and mechanical components are included, and technical personnel must be brand-certified. Priority shipping of parts is provided, and transport of replacement equipment is included.
