With the aim of offering a fun yet terrifying activity for Halloween night, as well as raising funds for its activities, the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Patients in Mijas (AFA Mijas) is organizing a haunted house open to the public on the afternoon of October 31st. It will start at 20 hours at the group's facilities, located at Avenida de Méjico, number 11, in Mijas Pueblo. This is the second consecutive year the event has been held; last year, 200 euros were raised and, according to the board, it was a great success in terms of participation. “The association's volunteers take care of everything, from the cost of materials to preparing the decorations... without them, it wouldn't be possible. This year, even more people have joined in, with 15 volunteers paking part”, said the director of the AFA Mijas day centre, Mari Carmen López, expressing her “enormous gratitude for the volunteers' involvement".
This year, as a new feature, the association will also hold a costume contest on social media. According to Claudia López, social worker at AFA Mijas, “to participate, you must upload a photo of yourself in costume to Instagram or Facebook and tag AFA Mijas. If your account is private, you must send us a screenshot of the post. There will be three prizes: gold, silver, and bronze pumpkins. We want people to get to know us and get involved with the associations and the municipality”.
The presentation was also attended by the councilor for Social Inclusion, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), who encouraged "the people of Mijas to come and see this haunted house. Last year was a success and this year we have to make it even better. These donations are very welcome, as all groups need funding, and they allow the association to meet demand and continue the important work they do with the elderly and Alzheimer’s patients".
