Following the success of previous editions, the Las Lagunas Tapas Route returns this autumn. This initiative has been launched by the Department of Commerce of the Mijas Town Hall in collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Mijas (FAM). The event will allow participants to experience first-hand the gastronomic offerings of nine establishments in Las Lagunas through elaborate 'tapas' and desserts. This initiative will run from the 18th of October to the 29th of November every day during the opening hours of each establishment.

To launch the event, on Thursday 2nd of October, Bar Gaby, one of the participating establishments, hosted a presentation and tasting of some of the 'tapas' that will be available on the route. "This edition follows in the footsteps of previous ones, and it really is excellent. We would like to thank the FAM for its efforts to revitalise the town centre through this initiative, giving our shopkeepers and restaurateurs the opportunity to showcase their businesses and allowing local residents and visitors to enjoy our cuisine and restaurants", said the councillor for the area, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP).

 

A commitment to local bussinesses

For her part, the president of the FAM, Rosario Cortes, explained that "it's a bit of a quieter period for businesses, so what we're trying to do is give them a boost during these weeks and, at the same time, bring more life to Las Lagunas. Every year we exceed expectations, and this one no exception. We've seen the 'tapas' and they look spectacular".

As every year, residents and visitors who want to enjoy this route will receive a 'tapas' passport, which they must fill in each time they try a 'tapa'. Once complete, it should be handed in at the Manuel España Theatre library from Monday to Friday between 8 to 20 hours. There, participants will receive a gift (while stocks last) and will be entered into a final draw with great prizes. The price of the 'tapa' is 3.50 euros and includes a small beer, a glass of house wine, water or a soft drink.

 

Innovative 'tapas'

After last year's success, some businesses are back with new 'tapas' to delight the public with different flavours, as is the case with Corte de Autor. Its owner, Francisco Ortiz, said that "this is our second year and, ultimately, this initiative serves to boost the whole area, so the intention is not to compete or win, but to enjoy".

Another returning establishment is the Circo sweet shop, which once again adds a sweet, nostalgic and exclusive touch to this experience: "With 'Back to the Past', we want to take you back to moments from the past with our sweets", said employee Esther López, who added that "what we offer on the route is gluten-free and has a nostalgic flavour with sweets such as watermelon, which we have patented, so you can only find it here".

 

Traditional cuisine

Other businesses, such as El Paseo Andaluz, which opened in Las Lagunas just a month ago, have also decided to join the route with their pork cheek 'tapa' served on a creamy mashed potato with crispy leeks. "We invite everyone to come and try our food, which is Andalusian, homemade and typically Spanish", said Cristal Rojas, one of the employees.
