The Mijas Town Hall is moving forward with the internal organisation of its administrative processes in order to streamline financial and budgetary management and improve basic services for citizens, such as payments to suppliers. The government team thus aims to improve administrative procedures with a view to “achieving faster and more efficient administration”.
This will be possible, according to the executive, thanks to the launch of the Mijas Town Hall’s Budget and Accounting Management Body, which will be headed by the nationally accredited Local Administration officer Cristina Martínez Santiago. The new head took office on Tuesday 30th of September at the Town Hall, where she was welcomed by the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP).

The mayoress stressed that the appointment of the new head is “essential for the Mijas Town Hall”, as she will be responsible for streamlining all budgetary processes, “in line with this government team’s policy of strengthening the management and improving services for taxpayer”.
Administrative standardisation
The Budget and Accounting Management Body is an entity provided for under the Law on Large Population Municipalities, which had not yet been implemented in Mijas despite the municipality having acquired this designation in September 2012. The measure was already included in the Municipal Organic Regulations approved by the current government team on 31 December 2024 and also responded to longstanding reports from the municipal comptroller’s office warning of this shortcoming.
The mayoress emphasised the current government team’s commitment to the administrative standardisation of the obligations set out in the aforementioned Law on Large Population Municipalities: “Mijas is one of the main municipalities in the province of Málaga, and as such it must function”, she explained in relation to the launch of the body now headed by Cristina Martínez Santiago.
First tasks
In addition to managing and organising the council’s accounting for all financial matters, the new body is already working on the design of the preliminary procedures for processing the draft Municipal Budget for the 2026 financial year, with the aim of bringing greater “coherence” to management, said Mata.
Another of its priority objectives will be to reduce the average payment period to suppliers, which Mata acknowledged remains lenghtly. “One of our priorities is to ensure that the suppliers who meet our needs are paid on time and in full”, said the mayoress, linking past delays to a lack of staff and an inadequate administrative structure, an issue that is now beginning to be addressed.
