During the inauguration of the Sabor a Málaga fair in Cala de Mijas, both the president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, and the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), highlighted the million euros that the provincial body will allocate to the town through the Municipal Economic Assistance Plans.
They noted that municipal projects such as the Los Santos car park in Las Lagunas, the replacement of water distribution networks in neighbourhoods such as El Coto and Doña Pilar, and, among others, the municipal indoor swimming pool in La Cala, the refurbishment of the Molino de Viento car park and the La Cala Coastal Path have benefited from this type of financial transfer.

Mata highlighted that “I think Mijas has hit the jackpot with that one million euros, thanks to the effort and good management. When there is such a significant distribution of funds, it is because the administration in charge is managing well. I know that the president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, is managing the Diputación, which belongs to all the people of Malaga, very effectively, and that is why this distribution must also reward municipalities like Mijas”. The mayoress added that “with this one million euros, we will carry out a major project, not only for Mijas, but for the broader strategy that, as a province, we all need to coordinate”.
Salado, for his part, emphasised that “we will allocate one million euros, which the mayors and mayoresses must assign to the investments they decide on autonomously, because the Provincial Council strongly believes in local autonomy and knows that mayors and mayoresses are the ones who truly understand the priorities of their towns”.
The mayoress of Mijas has stated that, from this week, the projects that will receive the million euros from the Provincial Council will be announced.
Criticism of the PSOE
Salado also criticised the PSOE for not voting in favour of this point at the plenary session held on Thursday 25th, at the Malaga Provincial Council. “What I don’t understand is how the Socialist Party and Con Málaga, which includes Podemos and IU, did not approve this project and, as part of a strategy, attempted to reduce the allocation for municipalities with over 20,000 inhabitants, such as Mijas, from one million euros to just over 700,000 euros. I don’t understand how Mr Josele González did not support this initiative for his town”, concluded the president of the Provincial Council.
