Last weekend, La Cala de Mijas became the epicentre of wellbeing thanks to the World Wellness Weekend, held in the town for the first time. The event, promoted locally by the Association Círculo de Mujeres Casa Luna, took place on Saturday 20th along the La Cala boulevard and on Sunday 21st at various locations the town centre. “For the first time, we have brought the global wellness event to the municipality”, announced the president of the association and coordinator of the event in the town, Silvia Mengíbar. What better way to end the summer than with “alternative therapies, massages, yoga, meditation, bachata or salsa”, added Mengíbar.
Under the slogan ‘Make wellness your superpower’, this event brought together hundreds of residents and visitors in a programme featuring more than 70 free activities. In addition to the activities mentioned, Pilates, Zumba, meditation and coaching were combined with talks on self-care, sustainable fashion workshops and activities for the whole family.
The Vik Gran Hotel Costa del Sol was one of the venues hosting yoga, salsa and even a talk on personal growth. “Thanks to the hotel for opening its doors to us so that we could present all these activities”, said Paula Lissandrello, also a coordinator for World Wellness Weekend in the town. On Sunday, the programme included activities such as “yoga and a talk entitled ‘Honour your dreams’. We also danced salsa”, she added.
Institutional support
The Mijas Town Hall also participated in this initiative. The councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), emphasised the importance of this municipal collaboration. According to the councillor, Sports “is a department that fits in perfectly with this event, because wellbeing and health are closely linked to sport”.

It was a weekend focused on wellbeing, with strong participation, a family-friendly atmosphere, and the possibility that the municipality has taken its first step towards putting Spain on the world map of wellbeing. “The Town Hall is committed to continuing with World Wellness Weekend year after year, if this year goes well”, concluded Alarcón.
