Sabor a Málaga opens its doors in Mijas this weekend

  • From September 26th to 28th, La Cala will host the seventh regional fair, organised by the Provincial Council in collaboration with the Town Hall

More than thirty producers from all over the province will take part in this gastronomic event

The seventh Sabor a Málaga Fair of the season comes to La Cala de Mijas this weekend with a full programme running from the 26th to the 28th of September. "This is a very important fair, as it represents all the agri-food sectors of the province, Sabor a Málaga captures the essence of many local producers", said the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who was accompanied during the presentation of this event by the director of the brand promoted by the Málaga Provincial Council, Leonor García-Agua; the technical director, Ignacio Carmona; representatives from Mesura, Miguel Escalona; from La Catedral, Salvio Cantón and Miguel Ángel Almendral; and from El Panal de la Reina, Guadalupe Rodríguez.

It is an unmissable event for lovers of fine food and local culture, featuring more than thirty producers from across the province, who will showcase the qualities and characteristics of products made in our towns. "Sabor a Málaga products stand out because they are crafted by our people, livestock farmers, growers and fishermen, giving them enviable value and quality", said the director of Sabor a Málaga, adding that "these products are also highly admired outside Málaga, and what Sabor a Málaga does is showcase everything we have".

The fair will be open from 11 o 22 hours on both Friday and Saturday, and from 11 to 21 hours on Sunday.

More than 30 stands

Among the producers present in Mijas are Oro Al-Andalus, Cafés Mokasol, Bodegas Carpe Diem, Bodegas Kieninger, Mieles Agustín and the local company Mesura, which specialises in the producing and marketing of its own-brand liqueur. For its representative, Miguel Escalona, this fair is "a magnificent showcase" and at their stand visitors will be able to find "a cocktail line based on wines, two cocktails with fruit or stronger liqueurs, as well as a Banoffee-flavoured cream and an orange-flavoured cream with a hint of almonds".

Visitors will be able to purchase extra virgin olive oils, wines with the protected designation of origin 'Málaga' and 'Sierras de Málaga', goat and cow cheeses, traditional and Iberian cured meats, as well as other meat products, olives and pickles, potato snacks, artisanal breads and sweets, locally roasted coffees, chocolates, honeys, jams, preserves and craft beers.

Showcookings

There will also be workshops, tastings and showcookings, providing a rich and varied experience for the whole family. The culinary demonstrations will feature La Catedral (Sunday 28th, 12 noon) and El Panal de La Reina (Friday 26th, 12 noon), alongside Dak Burger and Seixis (Saturday 27th, 12 noon). "The idea is to prepare three small appetizer dishes, and a fish dish cooked in different ways, from raw to fully cooked", said Cantón from La Catedral, while Guadalupe Rodríguez from El Panal de la Reina, will present "rabbit cooked at low temperature with a honey reduction and accompanying vegetables".

Performances

Throughout the weekend, there will be live performances to entertain visitors. On Friday, the UP dance group led by Remedios Leiva will take to the stage (18 hours), followed by Jesús Miguel Navas, who will give a viola concert (19 hours), and Meraki Flamenco Fusión (20 hours). On Saturday, between 18 and 19 hours, María Victoria Maldonado and Iván Sanddiandreu (former students of the UP in Mijas) will give a piano concert, followed at 20 hours by soloist Mami Curls. On Sunday, the UP dance groups led by Víctor Rojas (18 hours) and the students of María José Bueno, from the Academia Expresión (19 hours), will perform, and Jesús Miguel Navas will return on viola (20 hours).

More than 700 producers from the province are part of Sabor a Málaga and this fair, organised by the Provincial Council, has previously been held in Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga and Nerja, and other towns across Málaga.
