Soroptimist International (SI) Costa del Sol has once again demonstrated its commitment to the comunity during its sixth Summer Party, an evening of celebration, music and solidarity held in Mijas. The president of SI Costa del Sol, Daphne Theunissen, opened the event and thanked the Foreigners' Department of the Mijas Town Hall for its "continued support of the organisation's mission", making special mention of the councillor responsible, Mario Bravo (PP), and municipal technicians Katja Thirion and Laura Córdoba. She also expressed gratitute to those who attended the party and all who have supported the organisation throughout the year, including Costa Women, the La Cala Lions Club, the Mijas Red Cross, Sembrando Sonrisas, Nueva Cultura del Desarollo Tzoani and Avatés.
This year's event also served as a charity fundraiser to support the group's expanding projects, raising 500 euros. Attendees enjoyed a musical performance by singer Janet Powell, whose previous collaboration with SI Costa del Sol raise funds for the victims of the DANA floods. Among upcoming projects is a return to Paiporta, Valencia, to reconnect with women previously supported through the 'Soroptimist by Your Side' initiative, which helped them “rebuild their lives and businesses", according to a press release from the group.
Numerous projects
This is just one of the many ongoing initiatives led by the group, whose mission is to educate, train and empower women and girls to improve their lives.

The deadline for submissions has been extended to the 22nd of September, especially in the Technology and Innovation category, where more candidates are sough.
Alongside its ongoing efforts, SI Costa del Sol continues to develop new initiatives. A key milestone this year will be the launch of the first Soroptimist Leadership Academy for Women, to be held in Mijas from the 5th to the 11th of November. "The academy will welcome 24 participants from 17 European countries, supported by an exceptional team of educators", said the group.
