The 'Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental' (Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol) plans to allocate 882,929 euros to Mijas from the Joint Investment Plans. These funds, together with those allocated to the other municipalities that form the Association, total more than seven million euros, as was highlighted on Thursday 11th at the Council of Mayors, attended by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP).

"In particular, this concerns 7,046,659.83 euros from the treasury surplus, which we will invest, as we have done in previous years, in projects in the municipalities", through the so-called Joint Investment Plans, said the president of the supramunicipal body, Manuel Cardeña, who added that the entity, "as a body serving the municipalities that make it up, has among its objectives the execution of works and the provision of supplies through investment plans, with the aim of improving the quality of public services and citizens' lives within its territorial and jurisdictional scope. This instrument, serving the economic policy of the entity, has gained particular relevance in recent years".

According to the institution, this plan, which received "strong support" at the Council of Mayors meeting, "will allow the mobilisation of resources towards the productive economy in areas as relevant as the integrated urban water cycle, urban solid waste management, beaches, the urban environment, tourism, and the energy efficiency of vehicles or machinery used in the execution of municipal functions", said Cardeña.

Regarding the distribution of funds, "it will be carried out through a dual allocation system, establishing a fixed sum per municipality to ensure that a solely variable criterion does not result in very small allocations for less populous municipalities, with the remainder distributed according to the formula established in the entity’s statutes", the president of the Association specified.

In this way, Benahavís is allocated 281,331 euros, Benalmádena 872,236 euros, Casares 247,633 euros, Estepona 769,412, euros Fuengirola 773,238 euros, Istán 164,272 euros, Manilva 295,406 euros, Marbella 1,824,968 euros, Mijas 882,929 euros, Ojén 181,923 euros and Torremolinos 753,305 euros.

Finally, Manuel Cardeña noted that investments "are made on demand, at the request of the municipalities themselves, provided they comply with the budget assigned to each of them".
