The Malaga Press Association opens registration on Wednesday 10th of September for the 8th edition of the Race for Press Freedom, which will be held on Sunday 26th of October, with former Malaga CF footballer Sebastián Fernández Reyes 'Basti' as its patron. The 7-kilometre route will run through the city’s most central and emblematic streets, from La Rosaleda Stadium to Cervantes Avenue, once again championing free and quality journalism. As in the last three editions, the event includes the Press Solidarity Walk, just 2 kilometres long and designed for the whole family, with proceeds going this year to the Casa del Sagrado Corazón (Cotolengo de Málaga).
During the presentation of the event on Tuesday 9th, the president of the Malaga Press Association, Elena Blanco, highlighted the threat that misinformation poses to press freedom: "Running hand in hand with citizens and journalists, as we do in this race, is a good way to raise awareness of the dangers that affect our coexistence and to defend press freedom as an essential guarantor of our democracy. But we must also cross borders to help the many journalists who lose their lives for reporting and denouncing situations that violate human rights", she said, referring to the 247 media professionals killed in Gaza.
How to register
Registration is open from the 10th of September to the 24th of October, both inclusive, via carreradelaprensa.com and dorsalchip.es at a reduced price (6 euros) for those who sign up before the 12th of October. All runners aged 16 and over can register for the Carrera de la Prensa in two categories: Absolute and Journalist. The Solidarity Walk, which is only 2 km long, is open to all ages; children under 5 go free and the rest pay 6 euros. Race numbers, along with the runner's bag containing the official T-shirt and gifts from the collaborating companies, can be collected on the 24th and 25th of October at the Sports Department of El Corte Inglés on Avenida de Andalucía in Malaga (fifth floor), from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 hours.
