After fully reopening it to traffic a few weeks ago, the Mijas Town Hall is now continuing with various decorative works on Calle Río Darro, in Las Lagunas. This road has been completely remodelled, “with new lighting and pavements in keeping with the aesthetics of the rest of the municipality, and the important thing is that we have not lost any parking spaces in the area”, said the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), on Tuesday 2nd, during a visit to the site accompanied by the councillor for Parks and Gardens, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP). 

Among the work carried out by municipal workers is the beautification of the new roundabout created on this street, where magnolia trees have been planted, “we have added more trees than before, when there were ficus trees”, said Gómez Teruel, explaining that “have planted more than twenty almencinos, which are native trees with roots that do not lift the paving, as happened previously, and the best thing is that they grow quickly, so sooner rather than later we will be aable to enjoy their shade”.

During the visit, both Mata and Gómez Teruel supervised the final touches carried out by the company responsible for the renovation, for which an investment of almost 900,000 euros has been allocated, and took note of residents’ requests, such as that of Diego Reiné, who requested “benches for citizens, especially for the elderly, who need to rest while walking, and we have been told that they will be provided, so we are very grateful for that".

 

Other residents also appreciated the installation of underground recycling points and the removal of architectural barriers, while Jenny Maldonado said that this street has become safer after its remodelling, “now the street looks less dark and we are grateful for that, as it greatly improves the image of our neighbourhood, it is something we should be thankful for because everything has turned out very well”.

 

In this regard, the mayoress of Mijas stated that “streets are not only for parking our vehicles, but also for enjoying and walking along them, so these are issues that we have noted and will address from the Town Hall, through Operational Services and the various municipal departments”.
