The Mijas Town Hall, through the Department of Livestock and Rural Areas, which is taking part in the organisation for the first time, according to a press release, presented the traditional Full Moon Equestrian Route on Friday 25th, together with the Peña Caballista Mijeña. This is a highly anticipated event for horse lovers, which will take place on Saturday 9th of August, departing from the peña's hut in El Esparragal park at 20 hours.
The councillor for the department, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), highlighted this collaboration as a firm commitment by the Town Hall to promoting the municipality's livestock tradition. "Mijas has something that few towns can offer: the chance to explore our mountains on horseback under the light of the full moon. It's not just an equestrian route, it's a visual and emotional experience that brings together nature, culture and conviviality", he said. The route, which will last around four hours, will pass through natural landscapes such as the Las Pasadas river, the La Cala Hills residential area, the Cortijo de la Torre, the Molino de Ayala, the Finca Krimalina and the Arroyo Seco, before returning to the starting point.
The route will include up to four stops, during which participants will be able to enjoy drinks, tapas and a few surprises. "This initiative shows that Mijas not only offers sun and beaches, but also rural heritage, living culture and unique activities for all audiences. Enjoying our municipality under the full moon is a real luxury that we want to share with residents and visitors", said Belmonte.
For his part, the president of the 'peña', Juan López-Ayala, pointed out that this is a new edition that maintains the traditional spirit but incorporates some variations. "We will pass through beautiful and well-known paths, but we always try to add a little twist to improve the experience. The route is designed to be enjoyed, we are not in a hurry. There will be drinks, tapas and, no doubt, some spontaneous singing", he explained. López-Ayala encouraged everyone to take part in what promises to be an unforgettable night: "We want people to feel part of this tradition that is now ours. There will also be a surprise gift for the first 100 people to sign up", he added.
