On the 24th and 30th of July, the regional campaign 'Mares que saben' (Seas that know) will arrive in La Cala de Mijas. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the problem of marketing juvenile fish and to promote products from artisanal coastal fishing and aquaculture. Its main goal is to highlight the quality of sustainable fishery and aquaculture products, increase public understanding, enhance their image, and boost consumption.
The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía (the Andalusian Government) will run this initiative on El Bombo and El Torreón Beaches, from 10:30 to 14:30 hours and from 17 to 21 hours. The councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel, highlighted "the commitment of the Mijas Town Hall to informing and raising awareness among citizens about the care of marine species and the natural environment".
The Town Hall encourages residents to take part in this activity, as the councillor noted, "we must all be aware of the importance of sustainability so that future generations can continue to enjoy, at the very least, what we have today".
