  • The next session will take place on Friday 18th of July

The AECC and Aquamijas are collaborating, along with pharmacist Aixa Galán

A group of 43 young people took part on Monday in the municipal campaign 'Mójate con tu piel' (Dive in with your skin), organised by the Town Hall's Youth Department together with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and Aquamijas. Pharmacist Aixa Galán was responsible for providing them with information on the importance of sun protection. The young people who took part in the event had to understand, above all, that the sun is harmful to our skin. "Above all, we have been dispelling myths, identifying their skin types, differentiating between the two types of sunscreen available and how much cream to apply".

There were also some very interesting questions, such as whether you need to put sunscreen on your ears or beard, and we also emphasised physical protection, especially hats", explained the pharmacist. The prevention and promotion technician at the AECC in Malaga, Elena Ybarra, told us that "they really enjoyed the activity, they were very attentive and participated actively".

At the end of the day, it's something we all know, but it's true that spaces like this give us the opportunity to get the message across a little better, to make it sink in a little more and, above all, to give them a place where they can ask questions, because there are a lot of rumours and myths on the internet and it's important that they have people who can inform them with all the backing we have behind us".

On this first occasion, 43 young people took part, but the campaign includes another session later this week. The councillor for Youth in Mijas, Melisa Ceballos (PP), expained that "the next session will be held on Friday 18th, giving other young people the chance to enjoy both the park and the activity, which is not just a talk but also includes a treasure hunt where participants have to discover a message using a QR code".

And for those who haven’t signed up and are still interested in taking part, as places for the 18th are now full, the councillor announced that “we’ll be holding another session at the beginning of August. We’ll publish the details soon so that anyone interested can register".
