The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), accompanied by the councillor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), presented the new uniforms and bulletproof vests for local police officers on Tuesday 1st. During the event, the mayoress highlighted that the budget allocated to this "strategic area" has increased by more than 200% compared to 2020.
In this regard, the mayoress explained that this year's budget for the Local Police amounts to 1,427,263.94 euros, including budget amendments. In 2020, the amount was 465,896.47 euros, which means, according to the Executive, that over the last five years the figure has risen by 206.3%. In fact, compared to 2024, the budget has grown by 77.2%.

This includes the purchase of personal recording cameras, new breathalysers and speed cameras, mobile radars, surveillance drones, illuminated signalling systems for public roads, and the modernisation of the shooting range.
Funds are also earmarked for the maintenance of security systems in municipal buildings, as well as for improving the ventilation of the police headquarters garage. Additionally, funds will be allocated for the renewal of uniforms and specific supplies, as well as for strengthening the standard weaponry and ammunition.

Investment
"We are talking about the largest investment in the Local Police in the last five years, which is the result of our commitment to this security force. Just for uniforms, 150,000 euros will be allocated, which gives an idea of the figures we are talking about", explained the mayoress.
For his part, the councillor for the Local Police stressed that this investment "reflects a serious, forward-thinking approach to governance, rather than a patchwork solution". He emphasised that "the safety of Mijas residents demands well-equipped officers, with modern and effective resources, and it had been far too many years since the force was properly provided for”.

“I ask the residents for their trust, because we are on the path to achieving the order that Mijas deserves, after many years of acting in a way that was not correct. Moreover, we must be transparent, and with this budget, we are being transparent”, added the mayoress. Councillor Cuevas Dawson added that, “for this government team, our priority is the safety of all Mijas residents, and therefore we have launched these investments, which will continue over time because we want to increase safety in Mijas. We already have the budget to execute in 2025; it is a considerable budget that highlights the vast delays that existed at the Police Headquarters”.
In the words of the Chief Superintendent of the Mijas Local Police, Juan Manuel Rosas: “It is true that it is an ambitious budget, but it is now our responsibility to implement it. Often reality is not easy, but we will all work together, hand in hand with the councillor for Procurement, to execute 100% of the budget".
To conclude, Cuevas Dawson assured that the government team will continue to work “with planning and rigour so that the Local Police have the necessary tools to face current and future challenges”.
