Summer camps begin at the Entrerríos Youth Hostel

  • This year’s new feature is the return of daytime sessions for the little ones

Around 500 children and young people will take part over the course of the seven scheduled sessions

Summer in Mijas is synonymous with camps at the hostel. The tradition continues and last Tuesday, 24th of June, this municipal facility once again welcomed the first of seven holiday sessions. Joy, laughter, games and nature, that's what the Entrerríos Youth Hostel is all about, a true local landmark at this time of year.

The councillor responsible for the service, Melisa Ceballos (PP), visited the first session on Tuesday and said that "We offer a range of activities linked to nature and animals. Here, children learn about healthy living and how to live in harmony with their environment".

This year, the hostel will host seven sessions, some as day camps with bus transfers from the three centres, and others including overnight stays. In total, around 500 children and young people will enjoy the facilities and a very special holiday, all under the care of a team of 10 supervisors. According to Ceballos, “that’s the aim of organising these summer sessions, to help families balance work and family life, as many parents are still working. It also gives grandparents a helping hand and a well-earned break from caregiving duties, while the children have fun”.

Some of the children were very clear about why they liked the hostel. Triana said: “My sister has been here and told me lots about it, so I wanted to try it for myself. So far, I’m really enjoying it.” Candela Bermúdez added, “I always wanted to come to the hostel because I’d seen it and liked how it looked. I have a friend who’s been here many times. Now I’m here with my friends, and I’m really happy".

  • La novedad este año ha sido la vuelta de los turnos diurnos. |

New this year is the return of daytime sessions for children aged 4 to 10, which will take place on July 14th and August 25th. The aim is to accommodate as many children as possible, with places reserved for children with special needs.

According to the councillor responsible, “this year we wanted to welcome more children, so we decided to offer daytime sessions. We’ve increased the number of places to 96 during the day, and we have 60 children in the overnight sessions. We’ve had an overwhelming demand, and unfortunately, some children have still missed out”. Candela Escobar told us she was attending because “my mum is a teacher and still has to work, so my sister and I came here to have fun”. That’s also the case for Diego Ramos, who said that “my mum has to work, so I chose to come to the hostel to enjoy myself. Here I do loads of activities, swim in the pool and play sports”.

The children already have a full week of activities planned. The swimming pool and games are always favourites, but they’ll also get to enjoy the vegetable garden and visits to the animals.

  • Durante cinco días disfrutarán de numerosas actividades al aire libre. |
