CAC Mijas hosts the photographic exhibition 'Mikros'

  • The work is by photographer Javier Rupérez and will be open to the public until July 31st

An exhibition that captures insects like you’ve never seen them before

The photographs by Javier Rupérez show insects in ways completely invisible to the human eye. The artist’s aim, he explains, “is for people to see the beauty in insects, beauty we often fail to appreciate because we simply cannot see it with the naked eye. But when you look at them through my photos, they grab your attention. You see what an ant, a spider or a fly really look like. It feels like a world within another world”.

Beyond the photographic technique itself, capturing insects in their natural habitat is challenging due to their constant movement. “All the insects I photograph are somehow asleep, I can’t capture them moving because it’s impossible; they never stop. Even then, each image takes an average of 100 to 150 shots to achieve".

A meticulous work that amazes everyone who sees it.

The councillor for Culture Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP) expressed his admiration upon viewing the exhibition: “When you see them like this, in a way you humanise the insects; they seem much closer to us. Honestly, I was surprised and I also want to thank Javier for thinking of Mijas as a place to exhibit this work. Some of this photos have even been worthy of appearing in National Geographic, so we’re talking about a high level. I encourage the CAC to continue bringing this kind of exhibition".

  • El edil Maldonado, Javier Rupérez y el director del CAC Mijas

For his part, the president of the Remedios Medina Foundation and director of the Mijas CAC, Javier Fructuoso, described the exhibition as “a true marvel. This man is one of the best macro photographers in the world. We are seeing an incredible range of colours, absolutely spectacular details and things that cannot be seen with the naked eye".

  • La obra estará abierta al público hasta el 31 de julio

You can visit Javier Rupérez’s exhibition, ‘Mikros’, at CAC Mijas until July 31st.
