On Saturday 7th, Soroptimist International once again held its traditional spring charity dinner, which they organise every year to raise funds. Around 50 people gathered at the Benavra restaurant, where they enjoyed an evening among friends and members. The event highlighted the importance of community support, sustainability and women’s empowerment, demonstrating this group’s commitment to society.
One of its members, Giovanna Hurtado, told us that “Soroptimist brings together the common sense of a group of professional women who are sensitive to the pain and needs of other women in less fortunate situations and their families, so we work together to raise funds for projects” and thus help improve their lives. Attendees enjoyed a pleasant dinner with live music by Gary Scott and a raffle, which was made possible thanks to the collaborating companies.
Soroptimist Awards
“We are raising money for our projects, specifically for the upcoming Soroptimist Awards, now in their fourth edition, and tonight we are going to present the poster”, explained the president of the group, Daphne Theunissen. This is the Soroptimist ‘Feed your optimism’ Award. An awareness campaign focused on promoting sustainability that seeks to identify companies and organisations in Malaga that are leading sustainable initiatives by promoting responsible consumption and supporting local producers.
Other activities
Theunissen also clarified that “with the dinner we are also going to raise money for our basketball team. The girls are now 12 years old and are playing very well. They don’t always win, but that’s something that happens in life. We are also preparing the leadership academy for women, which will be held in November and will feature 24 young women from all over Europe. We are working non-stop but we are doing well. It’s an evening with lots of friends, so it’s a joy to be here”. For more information or to collaborate, please contact the association atsoroptimist.costadelsol@gmail.com.
