  • The Las Lagunas fair will run from the 25th to the 29th of June

The mayoress of the city, Ana Mata, welcomes the town crier, whom she defines as an “artist with a capital A who perfectly represents tradition"

The Las Lagunas Fair already has its town crier. The singer Isabel Guerrero will be in charge of giving voice to these festivities, which will take place from the 25th to the 29th of June at the Las Lagunas fairground. The mayoress of the town, Ana Mata (PP), welcomed her to the Town Hall and wished her the best of luck for the proclamation, which will take place this Tuesday at the Manuel España Theatre at 20 hours. "When we were deciding who should be this year's town crier, it was clear to us. Isabel is an artist with a capital A, who represents tradition very well, and I am convinced that she will surprise us with a great show that will include references to Mijas", said Mata.

For her part, Isabel Guerrero explained that she will give her all to the proclamation, body and soul, since she feels a deep connection to Mijas. “We will take an important look at all the most emblematic places, including the patron saint [of Las Lagunas], the Virgen de la Paz. As a flamenco singer, I couldn’t just deliver a spoken proclamation; I want to express through my voice everything I feel”, she explained.

She is the daughter of the well-known singer Barquerito de Fuengirola, and has inherited flamenco singing since birth. She is related to Corruco de Algeciras and Juan Ortega Escalona “Juan Breva”. Isabel first took to the stage at the age of 7 at the Festival Flamenco de Los Barrios in Cádiz. That same year, she sang saetas from a balcony in her hometown and appeared on television programmes such as 'Menudas Estrellas' and 'Veo Veo'. At just 12 years old, she was already sharing the stage with renowned singers like Niña Pastori and Diego “El Cigala”, among others. In October 2006, she was officially presented at the 'Jabegote'-Juan de La Loma Flamenco Festival, sharing the stage with María Heredia and Miguel Poveda.
