Venezuela will take centre stage this weekend with a huge festival. Andalucía Park in Las Lagunas will showcase the culture of this country from the 30th of May to the 1st of June in a major event featuring cuisine, crafts, live music and traditional regional dances.
Two local companies, Arepas Burguer and Plazas y Espacios Activos, together with a group of collaborating companies, are organising this celebration of Venezuelan culture. The festival will take place in the park over three days, running from noon until midnight.
According to Fátima Martins, one of the dance teachers and a professional dancer, "the aim of this festival is to bring the Venezuelan community together and give all immigrants living abroad the opportunity to enjoy a little piece of their country here in Mijas. We have excellent event organisers who work every day to promote the culture of our country wherever we are and to bring everyone that little piece of home that we remember so fondly".

The festival will feature traditional cuisine, 'including carne en vara 'and local drinks. Nixon Rodríguez, another dance teacher, explained, “We will also have traditional dishes, the most famous being arepas stuffed with various fillings such as shredded beef or pabellón. We will also offer traditional tequeños and traditional drinks.”
In addition, there will be various dance groups and live music. According to Martins, “among the traditions we will showcase is a purely cultural folkloric performance, including joropo, songs by Simón Díaz, and Venezuelan drums”.
The Mijas Town Hall is supporting the festival and invites both residents and members of the Venezuelan community to enjoy the event. Councillor Melisa Ceballos thanked the organisers for bringing this festival to Mijas for the first time. “We would like to invite all Venezuelans to come to this festival, as well as residents who appreciate this culture and folklore.”
It promises to be a fantastic festival to learn more about Venezuelan culture and to enjoy a little piece of Venezuela and its traditions here in Mijas, alongside Venezuelans.
