On the 12th of May, the registration period opens for those registered in Mijas interested in applying for a place in one of the seven summer shifts at the Entrerríos Youth Hostel, while the period for non-residents will begin on Monday 9th of June. As explained by the councillor responsible for these municipal facilities, Melisa Ceballos (PP), on Wednesday 7th of May, the first shift to spend the holidays at the hostel will start on the 24th of June, while the seventh and last shift will end on the 29th of August. “Pre-registration forms can be collected from 9:00 hours in the municipal offices of the Town Hall and the Branch Offices through the entry registers, and also online through the electronic office of the Town Hall, there, applicants must select their preferred shift”, explained the councillor.
This year, as a new feature, three daytime shifts will be available for children aged 4 to 10, lasting five days and including bus transport from the three main areas. These sessions will start on the 24th of June, 14th of July, and 25th of August, respectively. “Many families had requested this because they feel their children are not yet ready to stay overnight at the hostel, so we’ve introduced these three daytime sessions so that children can enjoy these facilities from 9 hours and return home in the afternoon, by 18 hours”, Ceballos stated.

This summer there will be around 500 places on offer, again including the so-called inclusion shifts for children with special needs. For all of them there will be a wide range of fun activities, which will also promote environmental awareness and socialisation among the children. “There will be craft workshops, nature activities, time at the farm and, of course, the swimming pool, all of which are designed so that they spend a memorable holiday with their friends”, Ceballos recalled.

In addition to supporting work-life balance and entertaining children during the summer, the Entrerríos Youth Hostel also creates employment, in fact, “we will hire more than twenty workers, including instructors, health workers, lifeguards, cooks, kitchen assistants and cleaning staff, among others, and the great thing is that many of them will be from Mijas”.
