Since the 1st of May, tickets for the Red Cross Gold Draw have been available for purchase. The local assembly of this NGO is asking for everyone's collaboration in order to raise funds to maintain their different programmes in Mijas. Supporting them is now easier than ever.

All funds raised through ticket sales go entirely to charity projects of the Red Cross. According to the Local Red Cross management technician, Ander Echeverría, “we’re talking about the Gold Draw, which is one of our most important fundraising campaigns. This initiative has been running for many years, and each year we’re seeing more collaborators and volunteers getting involved. Thanks to this support, we’re able to reach more people every day. All the money raised goes directly to our service users, and it enables us to launch new initiatives, for example, we’d like to start blood pressure checks in La Cala, but we haven’t been able to do so yet due to a lack of resources”.

Prizes

The top prize in this draw is three million euros, with a second prize of one million euros and a third prize of 500,000 euros. There are also three fourth prizes of 250,000 euros and three fifth prizes of 100,000 euros. Tickets are now available in many establishments throughout Mijas, at the headquarters of the local Red Cross in Las Lagunas, and through their team of volunteers. For just 6 euros, you can easily support local projects.

Echeverría also explained that “unfortunately, we’ve had to scale back many of our services and several projects are currently on hold. However, we’re still running the Food Bank, which supports around 100 families each month. Through the Homeless Programme and the Social Emergency Unit, we’re also assisting another 25 people.”

In addition to these, Cruz Roja Mijas runs the programme Promoting School Success, helping 15 students, and continues to offer blood pressure checks at the pensioners’ centre in Las Lagunas, in collaboration with the Town Hall, where an average of 120 people participate. Thanks to funds raised through the Gold Draw, the Red Cross in Mijas hopes to extend these programmes to more areas and continue supporting those who need it most.
