Mijas records a decrease of over 6% in its year-on-year unemployment rate in April

The municipality recorded a decrease of 364 unemployed people compared to the same month last year

Mijas registered in April a year-on-year decrese in unemployment rate of 364 people compared to the same month in 2024, a figure that represents a 6.1% decrease in unemployment, according to data from the Argos Observatory of the Junta de Andalucía. The municipality closed April with 5,613 unemployed, compared to 5,977 recorded in April last year.

These figures also represent a month-on-month decrease in the number of unemployed compared to March this year, with 398 fewer job seekers.

Social Security Affiliation Data

As for affiliation data, corresponding to March, the most recent month for which statistics are available, Mijas registered a total of 26,438 Social Security affiliates, representing an increase of 569 more affiliates compared to the same month in 2024 and 561 more than in February 2025.

These figures, provided by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, show that the number of workers under the general regime rose to 17,509, which is 97 more than in March 2024 and 523 more than in February this year.

The number of self-employed workers also increased significantly. In March this year, 8,603 were registered, compared to 8,114 in March 2024 and 8,563 in February 2025.

For the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, “these are good figures that demonstrate Mijas is on the path to growth. Even so, my team and I will continue to promote employment policies, as creating new jobs is essential for progress”.
