The Mijas Town Hall is calling on the Ministry of the Interior to provide the Guardia Civil with facilities in the town, “in line with Mijas’ needs”, stated the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), to guarantee public safety in the municipality. This was one of the key issues discussed at the Local Security Board held on Thursday 24th at the Town Hall. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Town Hall, Local Police, Guardia Civil, and the Government’s Subdelegation.
In addition to addressing what the mayoress described as “a longstanding demand”, the need to increase the number of Guardia Civil officers, she also raised another key point: “In 2025, it is no longer acceptable for Mijas to have a Guardia Civil station located within the municipality of Fuengirola”, Mata stressed. She firmly stated that “the Guardia Civil station must be located in Mijas, with facilities that meet the current needs of the Guardia Civil, which serves our town, and that are adapted to the municipality’s ongoing growth. Mijas is set to become one of the fastest-growing municipalities in our province”.
The mayoress of Mijas, who praised “the excellent work” carried out by the Guardia Civil, also highlighted that the town covers more than 145 square kilometres and has a population of almost 100,000 people, a figure that at times can double and even triple.
Call to the Ministry of the Interior
Mata also recalled that on the 25th of July, the Mijas Town Hall sent a letter to the Ministry of the Interior and the Subdelegation of the Government in Málaga, stating that the number of Guardia Civil officers assigned to a municipality like Mijas, with its specific characteristics, is insufficient. The letter also called for improved infrastructure and additional resources. Furthermore, the mayoress said she has requested a meeting with the Government's Subdelegate in Málaga to discuss the matter, but has yet to receive a response.

The mayoress stressed that the Town Hall has already offered the Government land in La Cala for the construction of the station, and that it remains open to working with the Ministry to move the project forward. “As mayoress, I am determined that our Guardia Civil should also have the best possible facilities. We are open to transferring that land and to providing whatever support is necessary to ensure that the Guardia Civil in Mijas has the best facilities and can use them in the most effective way to serve every resident of Mijas”, Mata concluded.
