The intensification campaign of preventive checkpoints promoted by the Mijas Town Hall is having convincing results in terms of public safety. Within this planning, the Local Police has developed during the last few days an extensive surveillance operation throughout the municipality, covering Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas, La Cala and the rest of the municipality, both on the coast and in rural areas.
Since the 11th of April, a total of 15 arrests have been made, most of them related to arrest warrants. These actions have been possible thanks to the increased identification and surveillance work in strategic areas of the municipality, in coordination with other security forces.
At the same time, preventive traffic checkpoints led to the detection of 13 positive tests for drug use and 11 for alcohol consumption, of which six resulted in criminal proceedings and five in administrative sanctions.
The first deputy mayor and councillor for Security, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), assessed these results very positively, stressing that the Local Police "is doing an exemplary job, the result of a very clear strategy: to increase presence, strengthen checkpoints and act with determination to ensure the safety of all our neighbours".
Cuevas stressed that this campaign "is not a one-off, but a stable line of work that responds to a clear priority of the government team: to make Mijas an increasingly safer place, with zero tolerance for crime and with more prevention in all areas".
The Town Hall thanked the officers for their commitment and announced that the operations will remain active, with new strategies to continue reducing crime levels and reinforcing security.
