Mijas Comunicación rescues the essence of Holy Week in an exhibition

  • Forty snapshots from last year will be on display in the Casa Museo until the 21st of April

This is the seventh edition of the Passion Week photographic exhibition

Mijas already smells of incense. Numerous events are taking place in the town during these days of Lent, including the inauguration of the seventh exhibition of Holy Week photographs organised by the municipal company Mijas Comunicación in collaboration with the Mijas Town Hall. 

The Casa Museo de Mijas Pueblo hosted on Friday 27th the inauguration of this exhibition which can be visited until April 21st and consists of 40 snapshots that summarize the essence of Holy Week in Mijas.

Taken during the big days of 2024, the photographs by the staff of Mijas Comunicación -Amanda Gijón, Isabel Merino, Cristina Bejarano and Francisco M. Romero-, show the main statues and the belongings of the different brotherhoods and parish groups of the three areas, but also unique moments full of devotion that reflect the uniqueness of the Passion Week in the town.

The CEO of Mijas Comunicación Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox) congratulated this municipal company for the work done: "The managing director of Mijas Comunicación, Laura Delgado, has made a spectacular presentation and we must congratulate you all because this is thanks to you", said Cuevas Dawson in reference to the staff of this public entity. The also first deputy mayor also wanted to highlight the video that is displayed in the exhibition and shows current and old images of Holy Week Mijas: "This summary of the last 20 years has made many people happy to see those pictures of when they were younger, is a generational leap that we have to thank the parish groups and brotherhoods".

The councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), also present at the inauguration, considered that the media company does "a magnificent job not only regarding the area of Culture", but also covering every aspect of the municipality. "In this case, Holy Week, an important cultural and identity affection which we see reflected in this exhibition", added the councillor.

For her part, the councillor Laura Moreno (PSOE) also congratulated Mijas Comunicación for capturing "the living history of our municipality in images and videos" and highlighted "the work they do to bring Holy Week live to the homes of elderly, disabled and sick Mijeños so that they can experience it from their homes".

Public event

The opening ceremony was also attended by many neighbours and representatives of the various brotherhoods from Mijas, all of them reflected in the images of the exhibition, as well as the Mijas Municipal Band and the Las Lagunas Music Group.

As is now tradition, during the inauguration, the images of last year's exhibition reflecting Holy Week 2023 were presented to the brotherhoods.
