The hotel resorts in Mijas are preparing to receive the first big wave of tourists of the year with the arrival of Holy Week. On Friday 28th, we visited one of them, MacDonald Hotels & Resorts, which also collaborates closely with the Town Hall in the promotion of cultural activities and employment promotion.
With four resorts, one in Mijas Pueblo, La Ermita, and three on the coast, two of them between Riviera and Calahonda, Doña Lola and Leila Playa, the MacDonald hotel complex, although open all year round, is preparing to face the high tourist season with good expectations. "We are at full capacity for Holy Week. We are expecting an occupancy rate of around 90% in the four resorts. We are starting the high season now, from Holy Week, and we have a strong season until October, rather November. So, God willing, everything is going well and at full capacity", said the general manager of MacDonald Hotels & Resorts, Maite Urquía. She also pointed out, they are still waiting for last minute bookings from national and family tourism, profiles that are increasingly staying, above all, in the resorts along the coast.

Urquía assures that the collaboration between the hotel sector and the Mijas Town Hall is key and not only to promote tourism, but also other sectors from which, in the end, everyone benefits. Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), councillor for Tourism Promotion and Culture, who visited the Doña Lola complex on Friday, is of the same opinion. The councillor thanked "the commitment that our entrepreneurs have with the Town Hall and with society, with the collectives, working together in common initiatives and also in an important commitment that the municipality has, which is to achieve the best employment rate in the town".

This commitment is reflected in the sponsorship of cultural events in Mijas and in the active participation in job fairs, strengthening the local economy and enriching the tourist offer. "We collaborate as much as possible, 99.9% of the time we are always there with the Town Hall, for example, we have been with the Peña Pitero, which is a very popular flamenco peña in Mijas. We have also collaborated with the Mijas Fashion Day and at a job fair recently held", Urquía underlined.

With initiatives such as these, Mijas reinforces its position as a quality tourist destination, offering an enriching experience for both visitors and the local community. "At Doña Lola, all the gym and indoor pool facilities are open to the public. In fact, we have a lot of members from the Calahonda area, from La Cala de Mijas, who come daily to do sport, swim in the pool and to relax, because we have jacuzzi, we have sauna and other facilities that they can enjoy", added MacDonald Hotels & Resorts' Operations Manager, Virginia García.
