The Manuel España Theatre is once again raising the curtain for solidarity. It will be on Saturday 5th of April, at 20:00 hours, in aid of Afesol Salud Mental Costa del Sol. The event is organised by the Mijas Culture Department and the Cultural Association C.R. Sierra Blanca, who invite us to enjoy a masterpiece by Federico García Lorca: ‘La zapatera prodigiosa’ (The prodigious cobbler's wife). The staging features a large cast of actors and actresses as well as live music, which means about twenty artists on the stage of the Teatro Manuel España.
This is not the first time that this cultural association has collaborated with the Association of Relatives and People with Mental Illness of the Costa del Sol (Afesol), in fact, it has already offered other performances for this group as well as for others. "We do solidarity plays for associations, groups and brotherhoods. We approach it this way because we are a non-profit association and everything we do is focused on this type of groups such as Afesol", explained the director of the association, José Bejarano, on Wednesday 25th during the presentation of the event at the theatre in Las Lagunas.
"We would like to thank the C.R. Sierra Blanca Cultural Association for organising once again this year a play in aid of our organisation, so that we can continue to offer resources and help in the field of mental health in this case in Mijas", said Cristian Gonzalez, president of Afesol, who added “we would also like to thank the Mijas Town Hall for providing us with these magnificent facilities such as this theatre and that we can publicise the event through Mijas Comunicación”.
The price of the donation is five euros, the ticket can be purchased at the box office of the theatre and in Afesol, there is also 'fila 0' which means that those who cannot attend but would like to collaborate can also make a donation. From the area of Culture we are invited to attend this charity event. "You are going to enjoy a magnificent play, performed by great actors and actresses and great direction. In addition, they are going to collaborate with a solidarity cause in order to build together a more supportive and inclusive Mijas", said the councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP).
The play
During the presentation of this cultural event, on Tuesday at the theatre in Las Lagunas, we were able to recall the story told by Federico García Lorca in this play, with which the company from Marbella has already successfully toured a large part of Andalusia. "It is about a marriage of convenience, where a very young woman marries an old man. At the beginning she is very dynamic and fanciful, always flirting with others, until her husband gets tired of her, of the fights and of hearing people talk about them, so he leaves. It is then that she realises what she had and misses him very much. One day he appears and she realises that she loved him", said Isla González, the main actress who plays the cobbler's wife.
"I play the cobbler", said the main actor, Antonio Coca, who added that “it is a play that is very popular and we have already performed it in many places in the province and Andalusia and we want to close the show here in Las Lagunas de Mijas, which would be the seventh performance, it has had a very successful run”. About the play, the actor also stressed that "the director, José Bejarano, has adapted the work of the wonderful García Lora, he wanted to innovate with live music".
