The Fire Brigade Department assures to promote training to improve the safety of the neighbours and to reinforce preparedness to deal with any emergency

The councillor for the the Mijas Fire Brigade, Francisco Jerez (Vox), highlighted the importance of the continuous training of the members of the municipal fire brigade. As he explained, it is an "ambitious and necessary" programme that includes real practices to deal with different types of emergencies with the best possible preparation.

"The Mijas firefighters are not only prepared, but they continue to prepare themselves every day. These practices guarantee a more efficient and safer service for all our neighbours", underlined Jerez, who highlighted the involvement of the team in training activities.

A few weeks ago, the troops carried out an extrication drill, that is, techniques to free people trapped in vehicles after a traffic accident, using hydraulic cutting tools, vehicle stabilisation and controlled extrication of victims. These days, the focus has been on water rescue practices, developed in the natural environment of the Gomenaro River, also known as the Fuengirola River.

"The versatility of the environment of the Gomenaro river allows us to recreate different scenarios of intervention in water, from the rescue of people swept along by a current to assistance in areas of difficult access and the stabilisation of injured people in aquatic environments", explained the councillor.

During this training, the firefighters practice swimming techniques with rescue equipment, use of ropes and harnesses in currents, safe access to the water from different points, teamwork with small boats and simulations of the rescue of unconscious victims. In addition, they learn how to set up floating stretchers and how to carry out transfers in situations of swelling and flooding.

"Investing in training is investing in safety. Our commitment is that every firefighter is perfectly trained to respond to any emergency, whether on the road, in homes and in natural spaces", stressed Jerez.
