The Brotherhood of Cristo de la Paz presented on the 21st the poster announcing the procession of its titular statues next Good Friday in Mijas Pueblo. Once again, it was Lucía Rodríguez Quesada who, for the third year, was in charge of elaborating this image, a very personal black and white photograph.
This is one of the most important events for the brothers and sisters of Cristo de la Paz prior to Holy Week in Mijas. The presentation of their poster is always a special moment, celebrated in an intimate way in their headquarters. There, the new governing board presented the poster for their procession. The president, Jorge Leal, said "this is my first act as president and I am very excited and happy. Next Friday, we will have the brotherhood mass and, already, the countdown to Holy Week". Leal also commented on how the photograph was chosen. "We were trying to put the Christ on the main altar and Lucía took the picture. She presented it to me and we all loved it. I asked her to do some touch-ups in black and white, to give it a different tone to what she normally does in other posters, and this is the result. We loved it".
Lucía Rodríguez Quesada was very pleased to take on this task again. "I was surprised when they asked me again, and I said: I'm going to face it with enthusiasm. This brotherhood is like my second family. I wanted to capture the majesty in the poster and represent the main altar behind the Christ. I wanted to represent that peace that it transmits, that serenity and calm. The colours also have a special meaning. The combination of black and white gives a feeling of greater seriousness while at the same time presenting much greater majesty".
After the presentation of the poster, the brotherhood celebrated a day of coexistence among its members. Special recognition was also given to the former president María Jesús Torres, who is still very present in the brotherhood after 30 years at the helm.
The municipal corporation also wanted to support the brotherhood in such an important act, with the presence of the deputy mayor Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox) and the councillor Mari Francis Alarcón (PP). Cuevas Dawson stated that "I can only congratulate all the brothers and sisters who participate in this event and in all the events of Holy Week. The brotherhood should be very proud of all the work they have done over the years, and the Town Hall should always be at their side, behind them for whatever they need".
From the PSOE, councillors Belén Roca and Laura Moreno attended the event. The latter assured that "from the Municipal Socialist Group we have been accompanying the Brotherhood of Cristo de la Paz every year. This year, with its new president, Jorge Leal, and of course, also with María Jesús, who has received a well-deserved recognition as a former president. I think it is also important to recognise those who have gone before us’"
Preparations are already underway and the brotherhoods in Mijas are working hard to organise their big week with great enthusiasm, hoping, of course, that the weather will be good.
