Education, solidarity and entertainment are the ingredients of the initiative ‘Looking for Keyla's smile’ launched by the San Francisco de Asís School with the aim of raising funds through a play to purchase an adapted bathing chair for the sister of one of its students, who has cerebral palsy.
On Thursday 20th, the students in the 4th year of primary school and the last year of pre-school took to the stage in the school to perform the play ‘The Jungle Book’ for this charitable purpose. They did so under the direction of the drama teacher, María José García.
The event was a complete success, raising more than expected. The teacher and driving force behind the idea, Laura Benitez explained that "the money raised was to be used to buy a new bathing chair for Keyla, as she had outgrown hers, but we were lucky enough that the parents of a former student who run an orthopaedic clinic contributed by giving her the chair, so now, the money raised will be used to get her a ramp for the car".
For Keyla and Jada Miguel's mother, Nafisa Hamad, the most important thing is not the money raised, but as she said, "the most gratifying thing was the reaction of the little ones", she also thanked the school for the initiative "because thanks to it the little ones now understand and know a little more about what is happening to Keyla".
